An obvious analogy...

Dad is to roses as Kate is to fabric.

After a two-week visit with Mom, Dad, and 350 rose bushes, though, I'm convinced my hobby is infinitely less labor intensive.

Deadheading. Every day. I didn't take pictures of the 18 buckets of weeds I pulled.

The bane of my father's existence: Japanese beetles.

I think I'll stick with quilting.

350 bushes! I would love to see those! I'll bet he grows some of the old-fashioned roses, too, the ones that have such heavenly scents. I want a large rose garden, but I'll settle for a couple of dozen.

Yep, the Japanese beetles are wreaking havoc on mine, too. I haven't gotten out there with the bucket of hot soapy water yet, but I sure need to.

But then, there are bins of fabric to fondle and UFOs waiting for me to complete them, and, and, -- how does a girl choose?

Beautiful roses! There's a wild rose growing outside our house that smells so wonderful. I make sure to smell those roses every opportunity I have. The season is short!
What a beautiful garden to visit! I hope your dad will win the war...
