Border-line insanity...

In order to relieve some of the pressure from having to produce a gajillion quilts in three weeks (at least that's what it feels like), I am doing something I should probably be doing every time I face a deadline:  resorting to the Duffle Bag of Forgotten Tops, that dark place in my house where completed flimsies get abandoned and can only dream of making it to full-on Quiltdom.

This is one of the few lucky ones that got out ((I swear I heard little voices cheering "you have been chosen!" (yes, that's a Toy Story reference) as I returned the bag to the closet)) -- made a few years ago for a friend who put in a request for something girly just after it was completed (doh!), it's totally appropriate for a baby due this May whose gender will be a surprise for the first-time parents. This means I can complete a UFO and save time! Woo-woo!

All but six of the colored squares are Jan Mullen prints and finish at 1" (blocks are 2"), so it wasn't very big. I added the purple and white borders this weekend to make it a little less dizzying and a little larger.  I was going to add a third border of black, but I'm not sure I like it. Binding will be the bright turquoise by Archie's tail.

I've been auditioning it with and without since yesterday, and can't make up my mind. It really shouldn't be this complicated.

This kind of indecision can derail me for days, which I really can't afford at this point, so I need some objective opinions.

Whaddy'all think?

I prefer if without the black border. Great set of colors for baby of unknown gender. At baby stage, they are supposed to prefer black, white, and bright colors anyway.

I think you have a good thing going there, storing away unfinished tops. Makes it much easier when you need a quilt gift on short notice.

Ah, I frequently am stymied with border decisions also. I have too many flimsies that just need a border--or two. Anyway, I prefer the light border only; the focus remains on the pieced center. The black border draws my eye away from the piecing.

You know, both ways are really nice! I think either choice will be lovely, but I personally prefer the one with the black border. Somehow it pulls it all together better than without.

I like it both ways too but lets face it, the edge will get the dirtiest with little hands dragging it around so I would put the black border on. Turquoise will look great next to it.

I like the black border a lot - both visually and Wanda makes an excellent point about the little hands :) Fun top!

This is a very personal decision. My thoughts are that the quilt is softer without the black border, but the black border combined with the turquoise will add a bright pop to any babies room. What are you looking for? Both options are great.

I like the black too and the turquoise will really look great against it.

I like them both, but I think the light border makes the colored pieces stand out, and the dark border pulls the matching black and white pieces to the forefront. Just decide which look you prefer, and dive in!!

This will make such a great gift! I'm so happy for that quilt top getting to be loved and used. I'm voting for NOT using the black border.

I like the addition of the dark border. It makes the quilt look more finished to me. Also, babies are only small for a short time and quilts last a long time - the larger quilt will work for nap time and tv time for the toddler and elementary age child.

All of our input isn't going to help you! Our opinions are about half and half. I like the black border!

Both versions look good but the black border frames the whole quilt - which I like better!
And if the binding is this bright turquoise it will look perfect!
Great job, I like it a lot!!

I like it without the black border, but that border does make it a little bigger.
