Rant follow-up...

Last night before I went to bed I was still annoyed about this thing -- so, packaging warnings be damned, I took an Xacto blade to it and made a hole in the back big enough to put the crevice tool of my vacuum into...and sucked all the hair right out. Voila -- problem solved! It didn't keep me from sending them an irate e-mail, but I'm slightly less annoyed today.

Yes, it's a really good product, but I still think it's stupid and irresponsible of them to create yet another needlessly disposable product for the sake of repeat sales.

Only in America, Land of Everything That Can Be Thrown Away.

Zheesh.

I'm glad you sent the e-mail--they need to know that consumers don't want wasteful things like that. Maybe they'll insert a slit into the back of the next bunch they make!

It is outrageous. In my grocery store, I've noticed more and more things have packaging -- vegetables that used to be loose are now packaged. I bring my own bags, and the clerk tries to put them in store bags before putting them into mine. It's really distressing. I'm glad you wrote the company; I'll try to do that more often, too, as these needlessly disposable items keep appearing.

Good on you! I'm from New Zealand where we a slightly better over here but definitly not saints. We went to the States last year and couldn't get over how wasteful your country is. That was my only gripe though, we LOVED your country.

We would do well to remember the saying, "waste not, want not". The store that I shop at takes $.10 off for each bag I bring in and take my groceries home in. Not much, to be sure, but every little bit helps and I don't end up with a gazillion plastic grocery bags;)

So glad you found a way to empty it anyhow!! It's sad it sometimes takes so much work to be green, even on such a small scale!

You rebel! Good for you for making it reusable. I think there is a movement to go back to the way things were and have well engineered products that last a lot longer. I think we need to move away from cheap and cheerful and pay a bit more for something that lasts longer...

Amen. I purchased same item, I am pleased with the results (great for getting stray threads off my design wall!), but HATE that it was DESIGNED WRONG. My pet peeve? DESIGN FLAWS. This could have been very easily fabricated with a snap off back, but NOOOOOO! They just want us to fill them up, through them away, and buy more.

whew, thanks for letting me vent!
